The little man's Cardi

It seems I've been into baby sweaters recently. Maybe it's just because a lot of my friends have been having babies! This one started out as a version of this sweater, but I decided the side buttons made even a masculine sweater look feminine, so I moved the buttons down and added a couple decorative buttons to make it appear double breasted. If I were to do this again, I think I would ACTUALLY make it double breasted, but it's cute as it is and the little man's mummy loves it! (which is what really matters)

???????'s Cardigan

I started this Cardigan for a friend's baby about a month or so ago as a modified version of this baby jacket. I ended up using a smaller gauge yarn and doing 14 rounds and I added more rounds of edging and an accent butterfly very loosely based on the first round of  this butterfly. I added crochet buttons using the button pattern at the end of this (LOVE IT!!) cardigan pattern (I've done two of them since I first saw the pattern and will b"n post about those next time)

I was aiming for 6-9 month size but ended up with more of a 3-6 month size. I tried it on a 7 and a half month old Dina Malka (for whom this cardi was intended) and it JUST fit her.. which means it’ll be going to a different baby…
sadness….
I’ll just have to make my DM something else!
Now to decide who to give this one to....

Hello! and Starburst Scrubbie

Can't believe I've started a blog!
(and neither could Cassie! lol)
Let's see if this goes anywhere.
The reason I've started this blog is to share my crafting experiences, crochet patterns, soap recipes (once I FINALLY get around to them), and anything else my crafty little head might think is worthy of sharing.

The first thing I'm going to share with you is a pattern for a Starburst Scrubbie that was inspired by this dishcloth pattern. I made the dishcloth and wanted a scrubbie to match (and a towel, but that's for another post!) and this is what I came up with. This is my first time writing a pattern, so I hope everything makes sense. If you see any errors, PLEASE let me know so that I can correct them!
Thank you in advance!

Starburst Scrubbie

Sorry for the poor picture quality. My camera is broken
and my webcam doesn't take the best pictures

I used a reclaimed scratchy acrylic yarn that reminds me of some of the Red Heart craft yarn that I used to use as a kid. It was 4 ply but it seems thicker than fingering yarn. I used a 5.00mm hook. Gague, yarn, and hook size are not crucial in this project.  Just make sure you don't end up with a scrubbie that is too small or too large for your liking!

abbreviations:
Ch- Chain
sc - Single Crochet
flo - Front Loop Only
sk - skip
ss - Slip Stitch
yo - yarn over

Base: Ch 21 (20 as base chain and 1 as first sc of round 1)

Round 1

sk 1 st

sc flo for 19 (brings you to the other end of your 20 SC) turn piece so front loops are now in back and continue to sc flo for the remaining 20 stitches. ss to 1st stitch of the round

Round 2-3

ch1

sc in each stitch
ss to close round

Rounds 4-10

Ch1

work starburst stitch around (pull up loop of yarn from current stitch and next two stitches. YO and pull through all 4 loops on hook, chain 1 to secure. If you need a step by step tutorial with pictures go to http://www.yarntomato.com/tutorials/trinity-stitch-tutorial/)
ss to close
NOTE:make sure that your starburst stitch starts in the center of a starburst (the tighter stitch) in the row below. This is what gives the pretty starburst pattern

Rounds 11-13
In this picture I had been crocheting the piece inside out
in BACK loops only, but I decided the right side looked
better and turned it right side out and adjusted the pattern
accordingly.
ch1
sc in each stitch around
ss to first stitch

sew or ss together

stitch 1 with stitch 40

stitch 2 with stitch 39
stitch 3 with stitch 38
etc
across the open edge
I sewed using only outside stitches in a zig zag pattern to get it to most closely resemble the other side, but it’s a scrubbie.. so whatever floats your boat!
